Also call when installing a mailbox, putting up a fence, building a patio or deck, excavating a new garden area.
Underground Service Alert is the organization set up to coordinate the locations of underground utility-owned pipelines crisscrossing property lines. Call the organization, or go online at DigAlert.org, at least two working days prior to excavation and submit a location request. A utility representative will come out and mark the location of its pipelines. Only hand tools can be used within 24″ of each marked utility line.
